In January 1979, these guys were cast members in a production of "The Drunkard" at the Ramona Hillside Playhouse in Hemet, California. During the intermission, the director of the show included Oleo Acts. She particularly wanted a barbershop quartet. Cox had performed with a quartet a few years before and, together with Beisner, Meyer and Winstead, formed what would soon become “The Undertones.” They were a big hit in the show and began receiving offers to sing at retirement homes, mobile home parks and festivals throughout the San Jacinto Valley.
